Project snapshot: Redcliffe Hospital, Ward 4 refurbishment

Premis has worked closely on a number of projects with Redcliffe Hospital and the refurbishment of Ward 4 east was no exception.

The project required Premis to complete a slab to slab demolition and rebuild, in a fully functioning hospital. The project involved complex demolition work and full coordination of hospital engineering departments was necessary, as well as detailed coordination with all hospital stakeholders to complete the project.

This once outdated ward has been transformed into a contemporary and welcoming hospital environment.

One challenge the team faced was that the rebuild was located above the Maternity Ward, with approximately 100 new penetrations needed through the existing concrete slab floor into the ceiling space of the Maternity Ward below. This presented issues with egress and ingress to the project site and required careful management of noise constraints. A lot of co-ordination and flexibility was necessary with the hospital staff.

Redcliffe Hospital wanted to change the visual aspect of the wards to accommodate ensuites, bariatric and multi-use units with the existing building footprint. The project was delivered successfully with the inclusion of a Bariatric and Dementia and Falls Unit and a high-tech interactive nurse call system. The Clients and Staff at Redcliffe Hospital are extremely happy with the new facility and working environment.
